4 ways to stop making excuses

Excuses, yes , they are everywhere in our circle of life. All starts in understanding our mind. As a triathlete I have had many situations were my mind controlled  my body with so many negative thoughts that the results were also negative. Last year in a duathlon I started the race thinking that I was untrain and that I will not finish , and what happen ? through all the race I feel weak and didn´t perform at my best .

Are you struggling to start, maintain an exercise routine or a new project? Do you keep building excuses like “I dont have time”, “I am so tired”, “I can’t do it”, “I dont have money”, “It is so hard for me”, those excuses might be shutting down our spark, our goals, our life purpose.

In a recent coaching experience I noticed that we build excuses to justify our actions when something didn´t work, or when we do nothing. Excuses allow our limiting beliefs to consume our life. Did you know that all our results are our responsability ? Yes, ours, not from others. If something is not working is not because of others, or the external situation. What we do, what we think in some way become our reality, our results. We build excuses because that is the easiest path our mind takes to feel better and confortable … in its comfort zone. “The mind is the key ” said Sebastian Kienle on the video The Iron Minds “your body could do much more than you think but only if your mind have control over your body it could tell what to do”.

So what we can do?

  1. First, be aware of the excuses that we say, be aware of why we are saying them,
  2. Remind your why . Why you want to achieve a goal or change any behaviour ( start exercising, eat healthier, start a business..)
  3. Plan ahead , begin to take little steps toward that goal .
  4. Commit yourself that you will go for that walk, run, or any other activity today and just do it, no excuses.

In the way we do what we say we will be more confident, fill out with beliefs that empower us and there will be no space for excuses.

Just imagine your life without making excuses.
